Questions w/ iPhone @ Cingular

Hi,
I am going to purchase an iPhone from the Apple site
but right now I began to wonder...

1. I currently using a Cingular 3G sim card, can that be used along the iPhone or do I have to use their sim card to activate in order to use the phone?

2. With my current 2yrs contract undergoing, if I could use my existing 3G sim card, do I still need to sign up for another 2yrs contract or simply renew/extend the one I am having right now?

3. Do I "have to" have the iPhone data plan or may I just keep my Media Max? Will I lose any features (ex: visual voicemail) under that data plan on the iPhone rather than the iPhone data plan itself?

You have to activate it with there SIM card and your SIM card now will be out of commision.

You must have the data plan i think.

According to the AT&T website:

1) You do have to use the SIM Card that comes with the iPhone.

Q. I'm an existing customer. Can I swap out my current SIM card and start right away?
A. No. iPhone must be activated before it can be used. iPhone includes a pre-installed SIM card for your convenience.

2 & 3) You can keep your same minutes plan, but you do have to sign a new 2 year contract and get their data plan

A. If you’re an existing AT&T (formerly Cingular) wireless customer, you just need to add an iPhone Data Plan. This may replace your current data plan. In most cases, your voice plan will stay the same (There are some plans that are not eligible).

iPhone Data Plans give you Visual Voicemail, text messaging bundles and unlimited data—which includes both email and web. You'll add an iPhone Data Plan and sign a new 2-year service contract during the activation process. Discount eligibility for other devices will continue from the time of your most recent contract.

Yes, you do have to use the included SIM, but have no fear- if you swap it back into your other phone you will still access the 3G network.

I found that the iPhone plan has saved me a ton of money every month, but I had the pda unlimited plan. I think you'll find no price difference w/the iPhone plans, if you're not sure check apple.com for the iPhone rates.

how about the text messaging plan? how will that work?

currently, i'm using my Nokia N95 w/ Unlimited Data + 200 Text (and Unlimited M2M text) for about $25

I don't mind using the iPhone data plan but I don't want to lose the unlimited m2m texting. Is there anyway I can keep the texting plan?
