Hey I just got a brand new macbook pro 2.33GHz stock but I need some questions asked;

1. My iPod has like 100 songs from the itunes music store on it but I need them on my macbook pro, I connected it and said transfer songs but it said it can't because this computer is not aurferised

2. What is the name of the Msn software that lets you use the built in isight?

3. What other applications that are fun(or useful) for the Macbook Pro

Congrats on the computer.

1. If you get the songs onto the laptop, when you try to play them, the authorization window pops up so that you can enter the password of the iTunes account you originally purchased the songs under. You need to be connected to the internet for it to work.

2. Not sure, but think it's aMSN.

3. Tons-- do a search because this topic comes up a lot. You might want to google macsanta right now and see if the software sale is still going on.

Thank you! But I know need to know how to drag widgets onto the desktop.. god Mac OS X is so much different from windows XP (Not so much with Vista though... hmmm.. )

For getting the songs across from computer to computer, there are a wide array of options. If the two computers are on a network together, the best is to transfer all the songs across the network from one to the other, I think. There are threads on that. If that's not a possibility for whatever reason, and there are non-iTMS songs on the iPod, then something like iPodRip may be a good option. Of course, if you just need the purchased songs, fine, then just authorizing the machine to the account and using iTunes is more than sufficient.

Mercury Messenger (http://www.mercury.to) is the other option for webcam with MSN. Neither are perfect. In particular, neither really do effective two-way video conferencing (i.e. audio and video in both directions). iChatAV provides native AIM video conferencing; Yahoo Messenger provides native video for its service, and so does Skype. MSN unfortunately is the missing link....

Mac OS X is so much different from windows XP

Which is why you should take some time to explore what came with your machine before you start modifying it. There are a bunch of guides at the top of the Basics & Help forum (including the Beginners Guide) and I always recommend David Pogue's "Switching to the Mac". Have fun.

Once they've been installed F12 will bring up dashboard. Click the + at the bottom left and this wil reveal all installed widgets which can be dragged onto the desktop.

Ok but how do I drag them to the desktop if I try and dray them it brings it to the dashboard board...

If you really, really need your widgets on the desktop, you have a couple of options:

1) You can turn on dashboard's developer mode and use this to move widgets to the desktop (see tutorial)

2) You can use a program called Amnesty, which is an alternate wrapper environment for widgets, that will allow them all to be on the desktop, if that's what you want.

Both Amnesty and a utility to turn on developer mode (if you don't want to use the terminal) are available here.
