i7 920 (2.66GHz/8 MB)
i5 650 (3.20GHz/4 MB)
which one is better?

i7 920 (2.66GHz/8 MB) is it worth the money to upgrade to i7 960 (3.2GHz/8 MB)

1GB GeForce GT420 DDR3
1GB ATI Radeon HD 5770
which one is better?

thanks!

1. i7-920 as it's quad core.

2. How much more does the i7-960 cost? You could just overclock the 920 to the level of 960, for free.

3. ATI 5770 by far.

Agreed, I have the i7 930 and it's plenty fast. Overclocking with the last generation of Core processors was extremely easy.

From what I recall (in the USA, at least) the 960 was about twice the price of the 920.

well budget is ofcourse as low as possible... and its purpose is gaming and stuff lol

Can you give a bit more specific budget? In gaming, the more you can spend, the better (of course there is a limit). What games are you going to play and at what resolution? Do you have any components yet (like ODD, HD, case...)?

If you don't need it right now, you could wait a month or so to get a fixed version of LGA 1155 mobo. Core i5-2500K is much better buy than i7-920 and it even costs less $. This leaves you more money for the GPU which is the most important components in gaming.

what does overclock mean? can it be done by myself?

lets just say im getting i7 920, windows 7 home premium, radeon hd 5770 for about 1500 usd. how is this?

It means you adjust the clock speeds yourself to improve the performance. E.g. i7-920 is exactly the same chip as i7-960. The only difference is the clock speed. By overclocking, you can achieve the same performance with i7-920 as i7-960 would provide, without paying any extra.

Way overpriced. If you can build it yourself, you can easily save hundreds of dollars. If you don't want to do it yourself, then e.g. here is one that provides better bang for your buck.
