Quick copy and paste question, tried searching

When I tap and hold to select some text, often, it selects a huge block and I can't find a way to select just one word in that block - yes, sometimes dragging the handles lets me go into the specific word selection, but 80% of the time it doesn't. I just read the thread on two finger scrolling, and that guy does deserve an award... thinking about that, has apple done something similary inventive with copy and paste?

I find on the iphone I can select more specific text by zooming in a bit more

I assume its the same on the ipad
