Hi there,
So, my sister just bought a blackbook from apple.com on Saturday-- it is due to be shipped on Wednesday. Now that the rumors of an imminent upgrade are louder than ever, what is the process she would go through if a new line is rolled out?
Is the limit for returns in this case 14 days?
Must the computer be unopened/ unused to get a replacement?
Is it even possible to get such a replacement?

Thanks. I looked at apple's legal stuff but could not find anything about what state the product must be in to qualify for a return or possible replacement.

14 days unopened, otherwise you risk a 10% restocking fee.

then,

So, if it had been opened, they will still accept the return (upon receipt of the restocking fee)?
That is nice.

We are both switching from Dell-- I've been waiting for the upgrade, myself. So excited! :D

Congratulations on the switch to Apple! I'm a recent convert from PCs too. If I were you -- it sounds like you haven't purchased one yet, just your sister -- I'd hold off until at least 6 November to see if the rumors of an update come true.

the waiting is killing me, but helping my checkbook

I'm doing my best to hold off-- even resisted the urge to buy a macbook the day my Dell crashed on me back in August (nearly three years to the day of purchase). I had to get an iPhone in the meantime to satiate my craving for an Apple! I think, though, that it just heightened my desire for the 'book.

You're lucky that your Dell survived three years! My Acer Aspire crashed thirteen months after purchase. The battery literally stop holding a charge days after the warranty expired. My roommate had a similar experience with her HP laptop, only one year old as well.

Yeah, it actually runs pretty well now that I've replaced the HD...
Whatever, I'm still getting a macbook.

It is a VERY tough battle to fight. I had to hold off on getting my MBP ordered during this last release in June. Then I had to wait while they custom built it and shipped it. It's WELL worth the wait though.:D

Your sister will have 14 days to return the macbook whether or not it's been opened. If it's been opened, she'll get 90% of her money back, and if it hasn't been opened, she'll get all of her money back.

FYI, per the rules, your sister should ask future questions relating to her Mac experience:

This is good to know. My sister just bought a MBP this Sunday, and I told her about the updates that are expected to happen in a couple weeks.
