quick help me decide! im going insane!

okkkkkkk,

without you guys wanting to throw a few punches at me over a new glossy v matte thread help me decide on this as im going nuts!

heres the score:

glossy 17" shipping 7th nov - delivered by 14th nov.

or

matte 17" shipping 14th nov - delivered by 24th nov

i really want to go with the matte now,but im off to london on the 24th nov,so wont be home for delivery.i also have an exam in london on the 24th and need a Mac for revising.

i can cancel one of these online.

matte, IMHO. I've been doing a fair amount of large print output from this and previous displays - all with matte finish. For me, the glossy would be a distraction and most likely change the apparent or real gamma setting. I don't have any screen calibration hardware, and haven't needed it using Epson 2200, except sometimes a tad more sat and tad darker. So, again, for me, I'll be sticking with matte.

And hoping to get my 17" MBP C2D stock this week (Tue/Wed?). Hoping, anyway.

I have a matte Cinema display its great. I have a glossy MB. Its great! Hope this helps!

If you're doing any sort of design/page-layout or in otherwords, your concentration on the screen vital - then there is no other choice than matte for designers.

I love the contrast and as a result, percieved richer brightness of glossy. DVD's/Games/Browsing etc look amazing on glossy, but all are none vital and the reflections when doing these tasks wouldn't bother anyone.

I've tried designing on both glossy and matte and I guarantee you, designing on a glossy screen will get you increasingly riled with the reflections

Colour wise, not much difference, if any. As you can calibrate that so that argument is void, reflections you can not! Also, your decision will last a lot longer than the few days of inconvenience - just remember that. You can always find other means to help you revise, and someone to pick up the mac for you!

why is this a difficult decision?

we are all used to matte, we know what it is, how it handles reflections/the outdoors/and the images it generates. So go look at the glossy.

Does it make you go "WOW that looks FREAKIN AWESOME"?
If YOU answer yes --> buy glossy!

If on the other hand it makes YOU go "hmmm, gee that light reflecting on the gloss is annoying, gee I cant imagine how I'd get accurate color prints with that" --> buy matte!

I just bought a 15" C2D MBP with ..... a GLOSS screen, to me they look unbelievably good, there is not a hint of doubt in my mind. i wonder if the "unsures" are better off with what they know - I reckon there should be a visceral, passionate "WOW" if you see glossy and like it.
