Hey Guys & Ladies,

My iPhone is on 3.1 or 3.1.2, not even sure which one. If there is a way to tell with the backups, please let me know.

It's jailbroken & unlocked, but does not load anymore. It stays on the Apple logo and after a while that the loading circle can be seen (right at the bottom of the appl).

This happened yesterday as well, both being after I rebooted the device. The only difference with today and yesterday is that:

1. It finally loaded up again
2. The windows option to drag the photos from the device came up & I luckily got all my pics.

With having the pics, I don't mind starting fresh, but I do not want to go to 3.1.3 and would like to know if I'm able to restore with 3.1 or 3.1.2 (I believe it was 3.1.2 if that was unlock-able, then I did indeed have it) as I do not want to lose the unlock (selling it soon).

Can I do this safely (using the ctrl + restore method) without getting an error from iTunes that won't stop unless I go to 3.1.3? I do have the latest version of iTunes... with that, could I do it with this version of iTunes or would I have to install an earlier version?

I have the 3GS, 32GB and I'm using Windows 7 64bit on both laptop & PC. Laptop with Standard & PC with Professional.

Edit: If anymore info is needed, let me know.

Thanks in advance all,

First of all, App Backup is garbage because when you click restore, it gets rid of all of your App Store apps. Second, and SHSH can be saved by clicking the Make My Life Easier button in Cydia before Apple stopped signing the firmware. If you didn't do this, then you are forced to restore to 3.1.3, and you will lose your Jailbreak and Unlock. According to the Dev-Team, possibly forever.

When you try to restore to 3.1.2 that you downloaded from the internet, you will not be able to because Apple has stopped signing firmware. You are pretty much screwed. You can sell the phone and buy a factory unlocked phone on eBay. Thats probably your best bet.

EDIT: Your next following answer might save you. Was your phone a tethered Jailbreak?

I want to understand this... I have the original 3.1.2 firmware, so Apple not signing the firmware (not even sure what this means), how does that effect me? Is it the latest version of iTunes that stops it? How is it being stopped? If it's due to the new iTunes, I'll just install an older version that I have on a memory card.

The iPhone runs tests to see if its okay with Apple to put the firmware on there. iTunes sends your iPhones ECID to Apple, and Apple matches it with the 3.1.2 SHSH. If the SHSH is found, it will send the okay to restore your iPhone, if its not, then you wont be able to restore. Also answering my question "Your next following answer might save you. Was your phone a tethered Jailbreak?" might allow you to downgrade. So please answer that if you have any hope of restoring and rejailbreaking and unlocking.

That is not what a tethered Jailbreak is. If you need to rerun Blackra1n every time you want to turn on your phone, then its a tethered Jailbreak. Does this happen?

hmmm...

You should have saved shsh with cydia, well you might be able to run pwnage3.1.5 if you goto iclarified. That might be just for mac, not sure.

iphone 3gs black display DFU???

Hello,

i hope you can help me.

I've got an iPhone 3GS (Bootrom 05.11.07 & MC Modell)
I bought two days ago, jailbroke it, unlocked it (blackra1n), solved the wifi and youtube issues.
Had to reboot a lot and did that through tethered JB with blackra1n.

After one day of usage I noticed that the battery was extraordinary fast nearly empty so I decided to re-JB and Unlock, but this time not to use the Backup on iTunes from my previous iPhone 2G.

I clicked on restore all settings on the iphone, it reboot and showed me the USB Cable & iTunes Logo (thats normal) that i started blackra1n, gehot appeared on the iphone display and then it stuck. i tried this a few times but it always stuck at gehots pic. On my mac it said: Waiting for reboot.

Then suddenly the display went black.

So now I think i'm stuck in DFU mode, because when i connect it to iTunes I only can restore (will get me to 3.1.3., which i don't want, because i need the unlock).
if i select the original Firmware it tells me the iphone is not eligable or something like this.
if i select the Custom Firmware (generated with Pwnage) it gives me the error 1600.

Is there any chance I can restore?

When the iPhone was working normal it was on 3.1.2.

Because your phone has the new bootrom and cannot be pwned (that is, the signature checks in your boot loader cannot be bypassed), you cannot use custom firmware. Since Apple is no longer signing the 3.1.2 firmware, the only way you can restore your phone to 3.1.2 is if you have your SHSH saved either in Cydia (through the Make My Life Easier button) or locally (through Umbrella). If you have done neither of these, it is not possible for you to restore your phone to any firmware but 3.1.3. You will then lose your ability to jailbreak and unlock for the foreseeable future.
