I thought Perian supported it, but maybe i'm wrong.
Just use VLC media or something.... Probably the best bet, although it doesn't help with quick view.

I don't know if this will work for you (I don't know of any FLAC-playing plug-ins), but you could use XLD to convert your FLAC files to ALAC and then play them with Quick Look that way.

It won't work with Quick Look unless you convert them to another format.

I'm looking for this solution also but if you just want to play flac files you can use COG. I'm using this software to listen to music (it is like winamp for windows), it can play lot of different formats including FLAC

Glad to hear,
that's right other 2 are not necessary, but I'm using them to rip/convert music especially XLD, Xact I installed only to see what is this and How it's working, but I think XLD is better

Confirmed, There are only required two applications (Fluke and Perian) to have Flac working with Quick Look verified with OS X 10.6.7. I tried this with 10.6.3 and no effect. Tested on OS X 10.7; works with Fluke only

Fluke partly works

I installed Fluke which doesn't work:

Fluke Error
An unexpected error has occurred during execution of the main script
GUIFormatError: app(u'/Applications/iTunes.app').add

But hitting the spacebar with a .flac file selected in Finder plays beautifully.

MacBookPro3,1 6GB
OS X 10.6.8 (32 bit)
iTunes 10.6.1
Perian 1.2.3

I have /Library/QuickTime/FLACImport.component/Contents/MacOS/FLACImport

Might have came from here

File created 2006, ppc/i386, crazy it still works on Ventura 13.3.1 on M1. Quicklook can play Flac and also you can Finder search for tracks by title, if you search for flac it shows all the tracknames in the Name column rather than filenames.

Edit: removed and reboot and the quicklook and finder search is still working so must not have been that plugin!

It doesn't. Quicklook can play FLAC because it's supported natively by macOS now. You can safely deleted that old component.

That wasn't the case 12 years ago, when this thread was created.
