Quick Mac-Noob Question? ASAP about tiger.

Hey everyone, i got my brand new powerbook yesterday, and im trying to install all the programs i need. I already tried to install msn 4, and firefox. Then i encountered this problem.
This is what i did step by step:

1)I download the file from MSN, or Firefox. I downloaded it onto my desktop.
2) Double click on the app, to begin installation
3) Then i drag the app into the apps folder
4) This is the problem. When i close everything and run the installed programs, there is a drive ( firefox or msn ) that shows up in the finder (under the hard disc) and on my desktop. I closed all files and everything, i even restarted my comp, and everytime i run the installed app, these two drives show up on my desktop and my finder. This is very annoying. Please help.

That little drive is called a Disk Image; it's a virtual disk, created by software. The thing you dragged into the Apps directory is the installer program; you don't really want that there. Look on the Firefox virtual disk, and that's where you'll find the Firefox application; drag that to your Applications. Then launch it/open it/double click it, and all will be Well. You can go to the Finder and open Help to read about Disk images; you may want to make one yourself some day.

All you have to do is umount those virtual disks. To do so, open the Finder, and next to each one you will see a small eject button (look the the right of the name). Click this and it will disappear. Alternatively, you may also go to your desktop (assuming that's where you put them) and drag them to the trash.
