Hi there,

so I'm buying an unlocked 2g iphone tomorrow - When I attach it to my mac, in order to sync with itunes, will itunes ask me to restore it - and in doing so will this un-unlock it?

In essence do I have to sync - restore and then unlock etc...

What will happen? Please guide me to the answers mac brethran!

Ugg - so inorder to sync an unlocked phone with itunes you need to restore it?

Why is selling iphones unlocked such a big thing if the user cant sync with itunes without having to unlock it.

So for the record - when I buy the phone...

  1. I'll sync it with itunes... (annoyingly restoring it)
  2. use Ziphone/ Pwnage whatever to unlock, jailbreak and activate.
  3. and hey presto?! - Yeah?

You have this all backwards. You have a software unlocked iPhone. Restoring to a standard iTunes firmware will make it not unlocked anymore. You should be able to sync to iTunes straight off with no problems, but restoring to any firmware except the ones made by PwnageTool or QuickPwn will lock the iPhone back to the AT&T iPhone plan only.

ZiPhone has been dead since 1.1.4 died. PwnageTool is the only thing now.

Also, no one uses Installer anymore. Just a tip.

thanks - I just thought that in order to link your itunes with your iphone you had to restore the iphone.

will keep you posted.
