Quick noob question

I often see developers giving promo codes on these forums and in other places, but I can't find where to input these promo codes into itunes / app store.

When someone gives me a promo code, where do I have to go to type the promo code to get the free app? Is there a way to do it through itunes, or do I need to use the AppStore app on my phone, or what?

In iTunes, go to the iTunes store. On the right hand side there is a link for "redeem". Put it in there. Codes may only be used once.

Ok, thanks. I thought redeem was just for gift cards.

When you enter the code, it knows that it is for that App and it starts to download as if you had purchased it.
