Quick PC to 27" question.

Hi folks,

Friend has two of these monitors to give me, from a surplus work supplies storage room where he works. He says they are from 2013.

He neglected to take any other pics of stickers and / or stamped serial numbers etc..

From searching, it looks like I might be able to connect one to my PC.

PC is new with high end gtx card, oldschool & newschool vga, digital, hdmi ports etc..

Quick question is, is it possible to connect, and if so would I get a half decent resolution.

Heres a link to another article on the subject, though they may be talking about newer versions of
the mointor, as the pic attached of my friends monitor has the vga symbol instead of the tunderbolt
symbol beside the connection.

That looks like a 2010 iMac computer - not a monitor.
If the iMac still boots, you should be able to use "Target display mode" to use it as a display, using a DisplayPort to MiniDisplayPort cable (with plugs on both ends, not the male-to-female adapter you linked to). Google "target display mode" for the ins and outs.

2011-2013 iMacs would have dual thunderbolt ports instead of the single mini-displayport in the photo: if your PC doesn't have thunderbolt 1/2 (most don't) forget it.

The only Apple-branded 27" monitors that have been made this decade are:

Thunderbolt display: has a white, captive cable that splits in to thunderbolt and magsafe (laptop power) plugs - only officially supports Macs and, again, unless your PC has thunderbolt 1/2 (rare), forget it.

LED Cinema display: has a white captive cable that splits into three plugs - MiniDP, Magsafe and USB. Should work with the dongle you linked to.

Note that Mini-DisplayPort and Thunderbolt 1/2 plugs/sockets are physically interchangeable, but apart from a limited range of cases where you can plug a DisplayPort device into a Thunderbolt host they're not compatible.

If you're getting two working iMacs with thunderbolt (i.e. 2011 or later) then they're perfectly usable Macs that would probably be worth eBaying, 'handing down' or donating to a good cause.
