Quick question about RAM in Core 2 Duo iMac

Hi guys,

I've just ordered a second hand 2.8Ghz iMac Core 2 Duo 24 inch with 2 gigs of RAM and 320 gigs hard drive space.

Thing is, 2 gigs of RAM is starting to become a bit minimal these days, so I was hoping to upgrade it pretty much ASAP.

Now, as far as I can read, this model supports maximum 4 gigs of DDR2 RAM, which is also a bit of a squeeze these days. Ideally I'd like to get 8 gigs into the thing.

I know Core 2 Duo iMacs are 64 bit, and I will be installing Snow Leopard onto it. So I'm just wondering whether the full 64 Bit support of Snow Leopard compared to Leopard will mean I'd be able to put more than 4 gigs into it and have it usable.

I also know that macs have a history of unofficially supporting more RAM than the official documentation states. Hopefully this applies here

That iMac can support up to 6GB of RAM unofficially.

Mac OS X 10.6 will not enhance a hardware limitation, as even Mac OS X Leopard Macs running on G5 PowerMacs could address more than 4GB of RAM.

Yes the maximum it will accept is 6GB, you can physically install 8GB but only 6GB will be read. I had 4GB in mine and recently upgraded to 6GB, got some more life out of the old girl!
