quick question about tv

I'm thinking on purchasing a samsung TV when I get my bonus in July. I saw this resolution: 720p (1366 x 768) resolution. Is this good? I see that apple tv mentions a lot about 1080p. Would an apple tv work with 720p? I don't have an yet. I'll purchase one the same time i get the tv.

Advice from the wise?

AppleTV works with 720p and/or 1080i, it does not support 1080p.

I personally would buy a set that supports 1080p, these sets will support all resolutions (480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p), and will support HD DVD and BlueRay players at there highest resolution (1080p).

Two main things:

ALL "HD" TVs support 1080 as an INPUT resolution, even if the screen itself is only 720p capable. Obviously, when playing 1080 content, a 'true' 1080 screen will look better, though.

The AppleTV does support outputting a 1080 signal, but at least right now, it can only play VIDEO at 720p, max. So if the only thing you care about is AppleTV video compatibility, a 720p TV will work fine. (It displays photos at full 1080 on a proper TV, though.)

But does it display photos in 1080i or 1080p? I only see 720p/1080i on Apple's website.

I don't think the "i" or the "p" apply with photos, as photos are not moving, and thus cannot be interlaced or progressive. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.
