I was clearing out some space on my iMac last week, deleting some apps (mostly games) that I don't play anymore. I deleted Rage during that spring cleaning, with the thinking that I could always go back to the MAS to re-download it if I wanted to replay the game. Right? Just like Steam, just like the iOS app store.

On a lark, I went into the MAS today to see if there were any deals, and looked at the info page for Rage. It showed the full price to purchase again. I didn't click on it, because I was unsure that I was going to get hit with a $20 charge for it.

Does anyone know if I will have to rebuy apps or games from the MAS after deleting them on my Mac?

You should be able to redownload just like on the iOS App Store or Steam. Were you logged into your App Store account that purchased it?

You should also be able to go to the Purchases tab and download it from there, as well.

I looked, and you know what? I wasn't logged in. Once I did, the purchase icon on the title changed to install.

Good find! Thanks.

You shouldn't have to re-buy them as you found out, however, it is possible that an app can be pulled from the App Store and no longer be available for download.

I suppose it is possible but so far in my experience with two discontinued apps, while they no longer have store pages they are still on my purchase history and available to download and install. I can still install Turbo Tax 2012 and Bento Database if I wish to even though both are discontinued and off the store.

This makes sense to me that one's purchases would be persistent.
