Hey guys, just a quick question. We think my wife's iPhone has a battery issue, in that it drains very quickly, more and more consistently, without heavy usage at all. We want to take it in to an Apple store to have someone look at it, and I wanted to make sure I had my ducks in a row. Do we need to make a Genius appointment, or is that something just for AppleCare customers or something? We're well within our one-year warranty (just bought the phones last month), but I wasn't sure what the process was. I had done a nominal search of the Apple.com and I wasn't able to find an answer to my question.

If anyone could let me know, I'd greatly appreciate it!

make 100% sure you have a recent back up on your computer... the apple store will not do any backups for you...

I found the live chat on apples website really helpful, they'll answer most questions within seconds. just FYI

Here's what I would do first, try a restore as a new phone. Then give it a day or two with a close eye on how the battery is working.

I know it sounds crazy but sometimes battery issues can be from software and this will fix any software issues.

If that does not work then yes! make an apt. and the Apple Retail Store. Keep in mind that apples warranty is called AppleCare so you are an AppleCare customer.

Also when you go into the store for the issue then, the genius there won't hand the phone back to you and say, go home and do a restore...they will be able to see if that you have done a restore.

Good luck.

I think it has been implied in the other answers, but be sure you have made an appointment before you go. Otherwise, if they are busy (and they almost always are), they won't talk to you until you do have an appointment.

Make sure that your phone drains fast when you have 3G off, wifi off, bluetooth off, locations off, everything off, otherwise they just tell you that your battery is draining fast because these services eat up the battery and they won't replace it. Just leaving the wifi on without using it can drain your batter because its constantly searching for a network. Or if you dont have 3G service and 3G is on, then it is constantly searching for 3G and draining the battery.
