If I don't install Backgrounder and Winterboard, does the iPhone slow-down or experience worse battery life if it's simply jailbroken?

Jailbreaking your iPhone does not slow your phone down or reduce your battery life. Installing things that use extra processor power and/or RAM do that.

Backgrounder and Winterboard are not the only things that cause slowness or reduced battery life.

Ive been jailbroken for about 3 days now. My first foray into it. But anyway, so far ive seen massive slowdown/getting stuck on Safari. Everything else works perfect. Now, before i get flamed, the slowdown is random and happens maybe once every 5 session (open and close the browser). Other than that, it runs fine. I use Winter-board,SBsettings and Categories.
