hey iphone users,
So if I have edge reception constantly, meaning I see the "E" icon all the time, would it be smart, money wise, to buy an internet plan from a attt?

In other words, if i don't use wifi, i should cancel the $20 a month fee for internet right? thanks

Why would you prefer to use Edge above Wifi?

I think you have it backwards.

The $20 / month is for the EDGE data network access (as well as your visual voicemail that is transmitted thru EDGE).

If you cancel the EDGE data plan you can still use WiFi for free. Since WiFi is not on the AT&T network, they don't charge you for it.

ohhh. Wifi is free if I can access it. But the $20 I pay extra is for edge. Edge is a slow access to Internet if I don't have wifi access. Is that right?
Please enlighten me on this. Thanks for the input so far.:)

one more thing. Since I'm using tmobile and I told my store that I wanted to add Internet to my iPhone, its just edge right. She didn't mention it so i just want to make sure I'm not paying $20 for something that I done even use.

The AT&T data plan is added automatically when you register the iPhone, you need to cancel it on your own.

Personally, I think EDGE is a big asset to the iPhone despite the slowness. It's plenty fast for e-mail and without the data plan, you have a device that cannot send or receive e-mail until you are within wifi range. You don't want to do a lot of web browsing with it (although it is useful for things like online banking access -- the Bank of America iPhone portal is very good and perfectly fine in EDGE.)

Of course, I'm in Chicago and EDGE is reasonably good here. As for wifi, I work three blocks away from the Apple Store on Michigan Avenue and from time to time, their signal is within range ... which is pretty amazing.
