i know everyones going to say OMG JUST SEARCH but the search function on this forum is well hard to operate around, If I bought an iPhone, hacked it and unlocked it and put a regular o2 sim card in it would the iPhone then be able to receive EDGE?
In theory yes. Edge should work just fine. You may have to adjust some software setting to make it work.
Also, I know you are in London, don't buy a hacked iphone from people. I know someone (cough cough) who sold hacked iphone for $100 over retail like on Ebay, that just make me laugh. If you know enough to come here to get help, hack the damn thing yourself for lesser money. Its really easy.

Speaking as someone who has done what you're proposing to do - buy a normal iPhone, hacktivate it and then put a 'normal' O2 SIM card in (where normal means a standard Pay Monthly SIM card) - yes, it will just work as the EDGE settings for the iPhone contracts work for standard Pay Monthly SIM cards too. If you choose to use a Pay As You Go SIM card then you will need to alter the APN (access point name), username and password. Appropriate settings can be found at http://www.taniwha.org.uk/gprs.html or http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html. In order to be able to set the APN etc. you may need to alter one of the preference files to get the button to reappear on the phone (it can also be set by altering the O2_UK.plist file directly) - if you do need to then come back via this thread and I'll do my best to dig out the info (although I'm sure someone else can fill you in).

P.S. Please don't title your postings "Quick Question", it is far more useful (and more likely for people to look at) if you put something descriptive in there, e.g. O2 EDGE on a hacked iPhone
