I am getting an iPad the day it comes out.

The question is do I get a 32gb or 64gb?

I plan on having about 1300 songs, 300 photos, a few movies (like 4-6) and a couple books.

What should I get, I am guessing 32gb because I have a 16gb iPhone and I have all that on there other than the books.

Quick answer: The best buy for the buck is the 64gb version.

Longer answer:
499/16gb = 31.19/gigabyte
599/32gb = 18.71/gigabyte
699/64gb = 10.92/gigabyte

Or another way to look at it is:
499 to start.
+$100 for another 16gb = $16.67/gb.
+$200 for another 48gb = $2.08/gb.

Don't buy the 32gb. Apple's marketing research predicts the 32gb model will be what most people buy. It's also the model they have the most profit margin on.

I understand that its the best buy for the money but what I am saying is I dont think I need the 64gb. 32 will be more than enough I think and I will be saving $100 to put towards the new iPhone

I most likely am getting the 3G 32GB. 32GB is the perfect amount of space for me.

So, you didn't really need an answer did you? ;) At best the 2nd gen will get a minor hardware update, such as the camera to fit in the place reserved for it. At worst your media collection will grow, and with the higher resolution of the screen the apps will all be larger, and you'll love watching movies on it, and in no time you'll be bumping into the 32gb limit.

No matter which you get, enjoy it. ;)

Why are you going to put 1300 songs on your iPad? Do you really think that it will be a superior way to listen to music compared to an iPod or an iPhone? I can see putting a small playlist, maybe 100 rotating tracks based on frequency of play, date last played, date added, and rating or something for some occasional background music while browsing or something, but why the desire to put your whole library on there? Are you going to stop using your iPhone/iPod?

If you drop your 1300 songs to even 300, add your 6 movies (@ 1.75gb each), even on a 16gb model you'll have about 3gb left for apps, books, and other reading material (which is small - a book is <1mb, magazines could be a few hundred mbs depending on the amount of photos, etc).

You'd also then free up about 10gb of space on your iPhone for more music, etc. as you wouldn't really need movies on there anymore. Anyway, that's just my take on it.

That is very true. I use my 16gb iPhone with 1300 songs on it, 300 photos, and 3 movies with 3gb of space left. So I guess I will have tons of space left on a 32gb iPad (even if I put my whole music library on there). So that answers my question I will get a 32gb and a 64gb iPad is not necessary at all.

And your right I can take off my movies from my phone and that will free up some space for me.

Thanks for the input mrgreen
