That's expensive unless the 3G is NEW. There is no way you would fully utilize the iPhone for $5.99. Most users use 270MB/mo and you will be unable to use the 3G service, Edge only on T-Mobile.

so do you think i should not bother with the iphone? or look for one cheaper cos thats usually the price i see them for?

You can buy one from AT&T for $99 new or $49 refurb.

This is with a contract not out of contract. He also risks receiving a model with a new baseband and not being able to unlock it. I think 250-275 is good because that had been the average price I've seen it.

alright, would i have to buy and internet plan on tmobile for the internet to work on the iphone??

Hey OP, I'm on the same boat as you. I'm trying to buy an iPhone for my mom to use on t-mobile. The reason I want the iPhone for her is because I think it'd be pretty easy for her to use simple apps and it will get her using e-mail, the web, etc more.

Seems from this thread $250 is a decent price to find an iPhone 3G. But the phone being discussed is a jailbroken one. I saw on the What to look for in a used iphone thread that a factory unlocked is what should be sought. Here is a link to my post in that thread. What should I be looking to pay if I go that route and (I assume) do the jailbreak myself (assuming it's doable). could I save some money?

I'm wondering what I'm losing out on by not getting an iPhone 3GS just out of curiousity.

Again, there is only so much she'll be doing with her iPhone. I'd like to make it as easy to hack since I won't be using it myself, I don't want her to be dealing with too many issues. And she'll only be using the web to a limited degree so I think I can get away with a cheaper t-zones plan for I believe it's $9.99 (maybe $6.99 for me since I'm on an older family plan and paying that amount for t-zones on a different line)

didnt you already post this in another thread?

^ yeah, I had posted in this thread first and then saw the other thread too with similar questions. On this thread a price discussion was already going on so that's what I'm really after (but I did give similar intros to let everyone know about the situation)

I have some follow up questions in the other thread if you don't mind checking them out there.

For anyone else who wants to join that discussion, it's the (post links to pcs are junk thread) What to look for in a used iphone thread.
