Someone talk me out of buying a 24" iMac... I have a touch of upgrade-itis and even posted a feeler to sell me current mini. I don't NEED a new computer at all (though I want one for whatever reason). The 24" iMac makes me drool and while I only have a little bit of money in my computer upgrade fund I remembered today that a company I work for is sending me a buyout of my pension (about $2k after taxes).

So, talk me out of it. :p

I will spend an extra 400 bucks and get a Mac Pro!

Meh. I barely need 2 cores, let alone four. The 24" LCD is what's so appealing about the iMac... my 19" would be NICE with the Mac Pro, but 1920x1200 is ... nice.

Plus, RAM for the MP is so expensive that it's a it, well, stupid. The 7600gt in the iMac is also likely faster than the x1600xt (in many cases).

No, you should get it. Treat yourself to a nice machine, you deserve it

Unhelpful. :p I was thinking I could get the iMac delivered to work, go home early, set it up, move my mini+19" over to my wifes desk (which currently houses a Dell w/ 15" LCD - shudder) and see what she says when she came home. ;) (She'd kill me if she knew how much the thing costs).

Sigh... why do the bad ideas always sound so good? On the upside, the check won't be here for quite awhile, which will keep me from doing anything rash. But if they figure out that the 24" really uses a standard laptop GPU card and it's upgradable between now and then...
