quick yosemite dp6 question

let's say I install DP6, will I be forced to do a clean install when the final version is released? or will it be a smooth upgrade?

a smooth upgrade is expected. Well you perhaps cannot "upgrade" from the current version, but once the official version released, you can download the installer and then do a complete installation. It takes about 20 minutes and won't mess up anything on your mac, absolutely NOTHING will be lost.

I participated in Mavericks but wasn't sure if I re-installed at the time.
