Quickbooks database (windows) accessed via fusion on mac mini

A friend is using it with Parallels, I can assume that it also can be done via Fusion.

You could run it under Fusion and store the database on your virtual machine. If you network uses automatic addressing (DHCP) then you should be fine to connect to this machine from the network straight away, otherwise you will need to specify an IP address, DNS server, gateway etc. before it will work.

Okay, so fusion would always have to be running in order for the database to be accessed, correct?
If I wanted to do this on a server it looks like I'd have to buy its own copy of fusion and windows, which is definitely something I'd like to avoid.

You'll need to bridge your connection so that your virtual machine appears like another machine on the network. (Assign its IP, DNS, gateway, or DHCP) It would normally get its IP address via DHCP/NAT as if it was behind a router.
Keep in mind Fusion is going to need to be running as well with the VM turned on.
