Quickpwn for Mac or Pwnage?

I want a proper answer here. What is better Quickpwn for Mac or Pwnage?

Just recently I tried to jailbreak my iPhone 3G - firmware 2.2.1 - using the latest Quickpwn for Mac and it failed...twice (the second time I had to restore). I have an iMac running OS 10.5.6. Does anyone know why it failed? Is it something to do with my OS?

Now I'm not sure what to do?

I have searched google and this forum for an answer and found nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It depends on what you want to do. If you just want to jailbreak, and couldn't care less about unlocking, Quickpwn is your answer. If you want to unlock, then you have to use Pwnage.

When does it fail? At what point in the process?

I prefer, and recommend, Pwnage Tool. It's been a whole more reliable for me and as mentioned, contains more features that Quickpwn lacks.
 
Another Jailbreaking question

I jailbroke at 2.1 firmware. Obviously, if I upgrade my firmware I will lose my jailbreak, but what about the music files and such that I have on there? Is there a repository of information on the net somewhere with recent, definative information about apple hacks, and workarounds? I always seem to find old information on the net. I used quickpwn and had the custom pinapple logo installed... I read somewhere that is permanant?
 
Ok, decision...

I'm going with with Quickpwn, I have already gone with it and its been stuck on this part for a while. Help?

no the boot screen are not permanant you can change em next time u JB.

what music files are you refering too surely all these music files should be on your computer on iTunes?

hey, do i have to do anything special with pwnage tool to keep the baseband at 28?

i cant figure out if i could just follow the iclarified tutorial straight up or if i have to do something different to keep me from not being able to unlock it.
 
the pwnage tool always preserves the baseband there is no way to build a custom firmware with it that will update the baseband.

thanks for the info. now another quick question. my itunes already downloaded 2.2.1 and in some tutorials it says to restore to 2.2.0, how would i do that?

Where ever it says 2.2, replace with 2.2.1. None of the steps changed, just the firmware did. :)
 
No matter what I do I cannot jailbreak my 3g with 2.2.1. I get the phone to recognize and into DFU and then the program just sits and spins. I tried both Pwnage and Qwkpwn. I even tried following the great tutorial at iClarified. I can get all the steps done but the program just sits and spins for 20 plus minutes. Locks up the whole system. I am using 10.5.6 on a 2.0g MacBook.:confused:

Are you using a USB hub?
 
From the Dev Team blog regarding 10.5.6, assuming you aren't using a USB hub:

Fixing DFU mode on 10.5.6

As noted previously OS X 10.5.6 introduced a bug that affected the use of DFU mode. with some Macs. There have been previously published hacks and techniques to fix this, but here is another method that can be used to temporarily restore DFU functionality in order to use QuickPwn or PwnageTool.

1. You will need an account with ADC (Apple Developer Connection) this is free and takes a few minutes to sign up, you should read the terms and conditions carefully and you should only sign up if you are thinking of developing applications in the future - http://developer.apple.com/mac/
2. Download the disk image “IOUSBFamily-315.4-log.dmg” for Mac OS X 10.5.5 Build 9F33” (yes, that is a “5” in 10.5.5 - this is a developer debug package of the USB kernel extension).
3. Unplug non-vital USB equipment, such as external DVD writers, USB scanners, USB mass storage devices, at the most leave a Keyboard and Mouse connected.
4. Install IOUSBFamily-315.4.1.pkg from within the disk image
5. Reboot your system!
6. Perform necessary DFU activity with QuickPwn or PwnageTool.
7. Download the disk image “IOUSBFamily-327.4.0-log.dmg” for Mac OS X 10.5.6 Build 9G55”
8. Intall IOUSBFamily-327.4.0.pkg from within the disk image
9. Reboot your system!
10. Reattach your USB peripherals.
