QuickPwn hangs at "Wait for your phone to connect in recovery mode..."

Hey folks -

Just got an iPhone 3G 8GB this morning, and being the everloving tinkerer, I decided to try my hand at Jailbreaking it. With that said, keep in mind I lack most basic knowledge when it comes to this procedure, and while I've been reading non-stop about it, I may be overlooking something.

I'm following the video tutorial for Jailbreaking with windows @:

I've followed the steps up to where the iPhone reboots itself.

Things to note:
I do not have iTunes opened when I'm doing this.
I started the process with my iPhone on.

QuickPwn hangs with "Wait for your phone to connect in recovery mode..." in bold. It never moves down the list of steps.

However...the iPhone DOES reboot into recovery mode, as I hear the windows chimes for disconnect and reconnect of hardware, and the phone is stuck with the words "iTunes" and the picture of the plug on the screen.

If I start iTunes at this point, it tells me it's detected an iPhone attached in recovery mode, and from there I continue to restore it and shut down QuickPwn.

Anyone have any advice where I'm going wrong in this process? Thanks!

Anyone have any insight into this issue? Or can point me in the right direction to read about a solution?
 
Maybe reinstalling quickpwn and rebooting your computer might help. try the process again after you restore your iphone (go into itunes, go top your iphone and click restore)
 
There is not actual installing of QuickPwn....it's just a zipped up .exe when downloaded, however I will give the system restart a try.

With this new version I don't need bootloaders or anything correct?
 
Any chance I could get pointed in the right direction of what to use instead?


- Like I said, I'm not asking to be walked through the process, just pointed in the direction of the most reliable and uptodate information.

OP: Open iTunes and connect your phone first. Make sure that iTunes can see the phone. Leave iTunes open and launch QuickPwn. Follow the on screen instructions.

Also, if you see the iTunes with the USB image on your phone, then you are not actually in DFU restore mode. Use this guide -- http://sleepers.net/news/blank/dfu-mode/

Draven - thanks for the tip, about to attempt my 3rd try.

Question about getting into DFU mode.

I haven't gotten to the point where it highlights "Hold power button for 3 seconds" or whatever....it remains with "Wait for your phone to connect in recovery mode" (Which stays bold)

My question is, is it waiting for me to continue on my own, or am I waiting for the next step to be highlighted?

Should I start the process of getting into DFU mode without QuickPwn telling me to if I see that iTunes recognizes my iPhone as in Recovery mode?

QuickPwn is, unquestionably the easiest way to do this. WinPwn is another tool, but it requires quite a bit more work, including a complete restore of the firmware on your phone. Too much trouble, if you ask me.

Some of the gotchas --

-Start iTunes and make sure it sees your phone before you start QuickPwn. Then leave iTunes open when you run QuickPwn.. it will close it on its own.
-DFU mode can be tricky. If you see anything on the display of your phone, you're not in DFU mode. The instructions in QuickPwn worked for me, but I've heard of many others who have had problems which is why there is a separate DFU guide.
-Do not disconnect your phone when QuickPwn tells you to turn it off. Simply turn it off. Then press enter on our computer and QuickPwn will walk you through the DFU process. Be ready when you press enter.

That's all there is to it.

The same thing happened to me. I like to tweak my computer so it runs with minimal processes, so I disabled some services that weren't needed. Unfortunately it seems Quickpwn needs certain services or else it will hang at the recovery mode part. Make sure that Microsoft .NET Framework and Terminal Services are running. If those don't work, try starting telnet and messenger too.
 
Easy Fix

I also had this problem. When your running quickpwn and it gets to the point,"Wait for your phone to connect in recovery mode..." just unplug your phone, turn it off, hold the home button, while holding the home button plug it in and wait for the step after the " Hold the home button for 3 seconds " to start following the instructions on the screen. I just tried this for myself and it worked fine.
