I've noticed lately that Quicktime seems to be having performance issues. There are some videos that used to play perfectly well in Quicktime, and now they stutter and drop frames all over the place. VLC plays the files just fine, but Quicktime chokes on them.

Most the the files I've noticed this with have been higher bitrate MPEG-4 encoded files. Activity monitor shows CPU usage as 100%. WHen I play the same file in VLC it uses 60-70% cpu. Am I alone in this or has anyone else noticed this too?

Nope, you're not alone. This latest upgrade is the first since I started using mac (1.5 years) that has actually made the program worse. As you say, frames dropping, vids. choking, etc. Although I have not noticed problems with CPU usage - with Safari however... I don't even start that up unless I have to.

Well its good to know I'm not the only one! I sure hope this is one of the 500 bugs supposedly fixed in 10.4.3. Meanwhile I'm about -> <- close to making VLC my default media player.
