hey. im running 10.3.4 and for a couple days now whenever i open quicktime the icon bounces in the dock and then it dissappears and "unexpectedly quits". it then asks me if i want to report the problem and i do. i tried reinstalling it like 50 times even deleting it and then installing it. i tried installing the update and also the stand alone installer but it doesnt help. also durring the instillation when it asks you to chose a drive, i pick my hard drive but then it says that it will take 0 bytes of additional space. this has been happening before i updated to 10.3.4 so its not that. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Quicktime crashing

When an application acts like this, most of the time trashing the preferences for the application will fix it. Go to your user folder > Library > Preferences. Sort through all the files and look for one with a name something like com.apple.quicktime. Drag that to the trash. Next time you launch Quicktime it will create a new preference file and will most likely not crash. If that doesn't fix it, then repair your permissions using Disk Utility.
If that doesn't work create a new user, log in as that user, and see if Quicktime will work. I doubt you'll get to this stage though. Write back if you do.
You can delete and reinstall Quicktime as often as you want, but unless you also delete the preference file you will always have the same result. The new install will use the old preference file and carry over any errors that were present.
Reinstalling apps that misbehave is a bad Windows habit that you don't need to worry about. In Windows it actually fixes things but on the Mac it mostly just wastes your time.

hey thanks for replying i tried everything u said but the only thing that works is when i log on as another user. is there any way that i can get quicktime to work when im logged on under my account? thanks

It's good information to have. At least now you know it's not systemwide. If worse comes to worse you can create a new user and move your stuff over.
Are you sure you got all the preferences? I just did a search and found 4 preference files in my home folder. In finder, serch your home folder for "quicktime" and delete everything that comes up--unless it's movies or something. Move anything to do with the program to the trash.
