ive had this problem for a while now, but it is bugging me a lot more lately.. wheneever i watch a video in quicktime, certain points in the movie stutter for a second, no matter what movie i watch.. When i watch the same video in vlc, it doesnt stutter.. what can it be?

More info needed please. Please give all details as to your computer, your computer's processor, your ram, your graphics card, your monitor, your version of Quicktime, whether the movies are streamed or on a hard drive. What kind of hard drive. Is it full? Fragmented? Firewire? IDE? SATA? Are Quicktime and VLC on the same partition? Does it happen on all size movie files or only large ones?
I can't imagine what could be causing that on your computer. Do you have the latest version of Quicktime installed? If not, install it and try again. If so, I do not know what the problem could be. Videos do not do that on my computer and it is a lowly 533 Mhz G4 with 1.25 GB of ram.
It's actually an issue I've noticed with Quicktime 7 generally, and it only gets worse with each update. The best solution is just to use VLC instead. Apple keeps making Quicktime a hungrier and hungrier beast, so I only use it when necessary.
