I have been puzzling over why I cannot play the movie in Safari that is referred to in this thread, even though I have the same specs as others who can play it.

Then I discovered on a different forum nothing to do with mac that some people could not play a quicktime movie until they had redownloaded the exact same version of quicktime that they already had.

So I have have two questions..

I went to the apple site and noticed that they have a reinstaller that will remove qt 7.03 and install 7.01 in it's place, but they don't say why this is offered. The first question is why is this offered.

Second question is what is the best way to resinstall the whole quicktime app. Do you have to look for all the associated files first and trash them or will the new download overwrite the existing ones. Also is this just a waste of time.

Maybe there is an issue with qt 7.03

To give people the option to downgrade to a known stable version of QuickTime. Then, from 7.0.1 you can go to 6.5.2 (I think, maybe 6.5.0) which is useful if you have a QuickTime Pro 6.0 code but no 7.0 code.

Don't go there. It's too heavily embedded in the system to remove, too many things rely upon it and it is spread too far throughout OSX. The only people who can safely reinstall QuickTime are Windows users. Sorry.
