Quicktime slide show, add audio

I have been trying to add a MP3 or a aiff audio file to a Quicktime slide show, to no avail. I have been following the Quicktime help instruction or so I think. Should I be using another type of file & if so how can I convert to it? Are there some better instructions available ? If so where?

I tried out the instructions (as per Quicktime Help) and it worked.
But I usually use iPhoto or iMovie.

edit: I used an MP3
make sure the playhead is at the start of the slideshow
