Here's a little background:
I went to the Apple Store yesterday and bought a MBP 15". Kept it plugged in to charge the battery and it was of course quiet. I used it on battery for a little bit, but the AC and the TV were on, so I didn't notice anything. I then tried to instal bootcamp, but wouldn't install without doing the firmware update. So I ran the firmware update and installed XP.
When I got home tonight, the apartment was super quiet, and of course I heard the whine for the first time. Once I noticed it, it was the only thing I heard, and of course it was super annoying. But only on battery power, it goes away when being charged.
I then ran XP to do a couple of things, and low and behold, the computer is quiet! No whine!! I thought - "wow, good thing it only lasted for a couple of minutes. that's the end of that."
So I then rebooted OSX and what do you know ...... it's back! I did a little searching and found out about QuietMBP. I installed it, and the program works like a charm! No more whine, don't know how it'll affect batery life though. I can't image it'll kill it that much, as I usually but the computer to sleep if I'm not doing anything on it.
For those who have a MacBook Pro and have the whine, run QuietMBP. It works!
For QuietMBP users, what do you have the slider set at?
Mine's at 140
Maybe we can start a poll .....
