Hello,

Is clicking on the red close dot on the upper left "exactly" the same as doing
a QUIT from the pull down on the upper bar ?

(it's usually a choice in the pulldown immediately to the right of the Apple pull down)

Anything (minor) left running from one method over the other ?
EXACTLY the same result ?

Thanks,
Bob

Robert,

Most apps if you click the red dot in the upper left hand corner will only close the window but it will leave the app running. Some applications like Dictionary if you click the red dot, it will close the whole app but most apps don't seem to be this way (like Windows). Traditionally on the Mac, it worked differently from how it works in Windows. You have to actually "quit" the application to have it fully quit.

Any single window application ( such as Notes ) will close as soon as you click the red (x).
Most applications are multi windowed, such as Pages or Terminal. Clicking the red (x) will only close that window. The application will continue to run, even if no windows are open.

Mac OS X helps you by putting a little dot by all currently running applications in your dock. If there is a dot, it is running.
