I may be dumb by asking this but what is azerty style on the keyboard? never heard it before

It's the French layout. You can guess where the 'a' and 'z' are located.

You can set it in the country settings. I have a querty external keyboard, and azerty on my Macbook (I'm from Belgium, and although a lot of us speak Dutch, we use azerty keyboards)
I switch between American and Belgian layout from the menubar (option in country settings)

You should be able to mark both American (Querty) and French/Belgian as active
