I use a headless Mini for playing music. I use German keyboards and layouts.

When logging into screen sharing from my laptop, the Mini has the keyboard layout QWERTZ and I can type name & PW without problem. Then comes the user log within the screen sharing window. There the layout is QWERTY even though in the system preferences > keyboard I chose a QWERTZ layout on the Mini. If I use a keyboard that's directly connected, it's QWERTZ as intended.

Can it be that the chosen keyboard layout does not apply to user log in if you use screen sharing? Could the inputs be translated to a US layout by screen sharing?

This also happens to me sometimes, I keep trying typing my password until I realized it's QWERTY. Especially often when you use Recovery Mode etc. Also happened on Windows.

No idea why it happens though, I just pretend my keyboard is QWERTY in this case and type username and password like that...

This is a long-standing bug and never was repaired. These guys are not very attentive to the workings of their machines. Such a basic problem is very sad of this company.
