Since Netkas has confirmed that the Radeon R9 290X works out-of-the-box within Yosemite (Thank you, Netkas!) then would it make sense that the 295X2, which is basically just two 290X chips on the same card, would work as well? And if so then would OSX recognize them as two cards or just one?

(Of course the 295X2 would require an external power supply)

Different device ID, 295X2 does not work properly even after adding it to drivers (according to people who tried).

All double GPU cards are detected as 1 GPU since Crossfire/SLI drivers don't exist in OS X.

I don't see why it wouldn't work as long as the drivers are modified with the device ID. It would probably require binary editing as well (not just info.plist) which is trickier and really a pain in the ass to maintain between OS X updates. I don't recommend it.
