Hey guys,

today I've received my new iMac. It's a fantastic machine.
I'd like to use the overdrive feature in the Catalyst Control Center but it's not available (not even displayed). Does anyone know of a workaround to enable that feature? I'd like to overclock the graphics card a bit.

Kind regards
Sascha :apple:

are you OCing it on the Windows side?

Thanks guys :) Finally managed to get MSI Afterburner running.
Core speed of 750 Mhz / Memory Clock at 1075 Mhz - no problems, system at 66-70°C on idle after playing, maximum 82°C after playing SC2 in max. resolution for a while. Will report back.

After testing Bad Company 2 (which runs great in 1080p high details 1x MSAA / AA - really no slowdowns whatsoever) for 45 minutes, max logged gpu temperature (the highest of three sensors) was 86°c - is that too much??

No, that sounds alright to me, though 66-70c idle would definitely worry me.

Everything under 100c is still okay. I would keep it below 90ish though. BTW, congrats for OCd ATI 5870M ;) It could still OC more, probs even 800MHz for core with reasonable temps.

Are those temps with the default odd fan speed? Try cranking your odd fan speed up some more and share with us the temps. With max odd fan speed, the highest my overclocked mobility 4850 gets is 70c. I'd love to the max mobility 5850 gets.

The "system temp" I've referred to earlier was the measurement on the GPU (hottest sensor), it's got around 60°C on idle. Nothing to worry about I guess.

Which tool shall I use for manipulating fan speeds?

So far, I've used MSI Afterburner and MSI On-Screen Display Server for monitoring 3D status of the system and dynamic OCing. Afterburner kicks in with a custom tweaked clock profile when a 3D game is launched and goes back to default clocks when the 3d app is closed.

I've been running 749/1047 all evening (SC2, CrysWarhead, MW2, BFBC2, Conviction, PES2010) with no problems whatsoever. Note: Under heavy load, the graphics temp hovers at the upper 70s, reaching a maximum of 86°C under really heavy duty. It never went over that threshold. I've used AMD GPU Clock Tool to monitor the temps..

Will get back to more testing in the coming days! :)
