I just want to see if anybody out there has done the 10.7.3 update on their Mac Pro with a Radeon 6870 card?

I remain paranoid that the support without flashing is too good to be true and will vanish with new video drivers that will come with OS updates.

Please let me know about your successes/failures.

Yes. Works fine.

yes!!! I am about to install the XFX 6870 and I am probably not going to flash it due to being a scaredy cat about bricking it. I hope Apple keeps support for this. I am thinking that if they wanted to get rid of it they would have done so in 10.7.1 or .2 though so hopes to that.

Anyone any info please?

By the way is there any disadvantages about not flashing apart from no boot screen? Like any lower performances on anything?

Yes. Works fine.

Thanks a lot mate!

I run an MSI 6870 and the fan would constantly run at high speed until I flashed it. Silent now.

hmm thanks for that. I better start looking up flashing guide then. I was on the netkas forum but stuff is everywhere scattered kinda hard to get my head around what I have to do. I will do some more research though

I used netkas' rom and method using a PC to flash. I never could get the ati flash tool for Mac to work, pretty buggy. I used this method:

Yes, it appears to work fine.. I feel dumb though, I should've asked this question/read this thread before I upgraded, I forgot about the bricking possibility (Whew! Dodged a bullet on that one).

what about 4890HD? the classic one !
Can I update my system ? to 10.7.3 ? already ?

Yes, I guess Time Machine can get me out of a bind if necessary, but it's still a pain and a timesink to restore.

Not if you use a different backup solution. I can restore 200GB in 1-2 Hours on clean disk. TM sucks.

no, netkas no longer makes reverse engineered 4800 drivers with added 4890 support afaik

sounds bad ! so I can't update ! and I don't want to install&remove , and have lots of data in mac partition !

Not to disagree in any sense, both the Radeon HD 4870 and 4890 is old (even though I still rock a 4890 here heh) but his blog seems to indicate otherwise.

10.7.3 is out as you know, will try to make my usual patches as soon as I can.
