I have a Sapphire Radeon 7950 that has the 6 to 8 pins connectors . Most of the cards I have seen have the 6 to 6 pins. What, if any, is the difference in power consumption vs the 6 to 6 pin and will this card be ok to run in my 2010 cMP. Considering flashing it will not pull too much power. All the specifications I have seen are for the 6 to6 pin cards.
Thanks

You forgot to tell the exact model....
The card exists in a few hundred versions. Perhaps yours is only overclocked.

Will get that info to you soon. In the meantime, I know I have to have Windows to flash the card. I have Windows 10 on a separate hard drive in my mac 5,1. I can boot it with or without my Catalina drive in the machine. Will this be sufficient to flash the card or do I have to have Windows on bootcamp. I have Catalina on one of my macs and Mojave on my other one. Which drive (Catalina or Mojave) would be best to use to flash the card or does it make any difference?

Will try to get this info Monday. Loaned the card to a friend that his card went bad. He supposed to have his card by Monday.

Here are some pics of my 7950 cards. Both are basically the same but the have a core clock difference. Don't know why since they are both HD 7950 with boost. And I was wrong on the pins, both are 6 pin to 6pin.

As you can see, they have different GPU clock MHz, don't know why though. I plan on flashing them to Mac if I can ever learn how to do it. Have watched and read various procedures for this but can't seem to get it right. Seems like the people writing and video taping know what they are doing and I guess assume everyone knows what to do also. They should have one geared to stupid (for lack of a better word) guys like me. Is there anyone beside macvidcards that flash them. Heard some not so good things about them.

800MHz is the original reference clock speed.

925MHz is the boost version.

Both card may look identical. In fact, the hardware can be identical, but just the firmware is different.

You better dump the ROM and make your own Mac edition ROM for your card. The steps are simple, but you need to get the fixrom scrip, and read the terminal output carefully during the process. If there is any error, you will able to see that.

Yeah, I guess that's what it is but if you look at the labels everything is identical except the s/n's. Both even say BOOST on the labels. I just couldn't figure out the difference. As far as bumping the rom, I don't have clue for that.
Thanks

Then highly likely both are the boost version cards. ROM 1 is the reference setting, ROM 2 is the boost setting.

I sold the one with the reference settings and kept the original boost card. Right now I:m running my Radeon RX560 in my 2009 cMP on open core but I getting some glitches with the screen. Where would I post this to try and resolve it. The screen will go black for a millisecond and come back on. In fact I:m using it on the forum now. Not sure where to post it though.

Well, I put my Sapphire 7950 boost in and it works fine. No flickering at all. Guess it was my 560.

No I haven't. The GTX 680 and the RX 560 are PC Cards with dp connections. I didn't try any of the other connector (HDMI, etc) though. The 7950 has the Mac mini dp connections. Seems the dp on the PC Cards wasn't making a good connection. I could put pressure or move the cable for thee cards and no flickering. The Sapphire 7950 works perfect. These cards also did the same thing on my 2010 which is running oc Monterey. Thought about trying my old GT120 but haven't got around to it yet. But it has mini dp also.
