Has any W6800x owners come across overheating or performance issues with Adobe products?

My current setup is 3.3 12-core, 96gb 2933 mhz ddr with the stock 580x card It seems like it's been slowing down for quite some time. My M1 Max laptop just seems so much snappier and quicker. I mainly work with Photoshop and Lightroom with some Premiere work here and there. I realized I can even hold more tabs open on my MBP than my Mac Pro even though I have more ram on my Mac Pro. Do you guys think upgrading to W6800x would improve daily tasks like browsing and less GPU-used tasks like Photoshop? Sorry for going off tangent

I cannot answer your question as I'm using a W5700X but I'd be very interested to know myself as I mainly work with Photoshop and Lightroom myself and also if Adobe Illustrator works ok with this card?

Cannot comment on the W6800X, but I’ve seen a few complaints of what appear to be failing 580’s recently on some video forums. Seems to be on machines that are never turned off and have some capacity of added internal RAID storage. Assuming it is heat related and/or issue with placement of storage near GPU adding to heat.

If you haven’t cleaned out the fans or opened the machine to clear out some dust bunnies, might be a place to start to explore first.

The video card in your laptop is twice as fast as the 580 in your Mac Pro. But I kind of doubt an upgrade will help.

Your M1 Max has faster memory and a faster SSD. Those are more likely to be what’s causing the snappier performance.

If you really wanted to update the GPU, the W5700X is a good option that won’t mean spending too much money on a component you’re not heavily using.

Can‘t comment on the temperature concerns or your impressions of a recent slowdown, but:

Besides the stated facts of faster RAM, SSD and GPU of the M1 Max, in regard of Photoshop and feeling snappy, in my experience, it‘s mostly about CPU single core performance.
Your W-3235 yields a score of 1100 whereas the M1 Max is more than 60% faster with 1780 in Geekbench 5. (And still, Multiscore of the M1 Max is also slightly higher).
Some filters/processes in Photoshop can only use a maximum number of 8 threads, some are even limited to one! (regardless of your 12 cores / 24 threads)
Only few filters/processes actually use the GPU (and even then would the M1 Max surpass).

Before making any decisions, I would watch CPU (Single/Multi) and GPU utilization as well as RAM pressure during a typical workflow of yours. I‘d create a representative action and run it on your Mac Pro and MacBook.
For monitoring I use iStat menus.
It heavily depends on YOUR specific tasks, if a (pricey) GPU upgrade benefits your work.

I use Photoshop and Lightroom daily, all I can say is Adobe Apps have been optimized for Apple M1 chip. That`s why it runs well on the MBP and feels snappy. Unfortunately, even with the W6800X, you would not see any improvements. The W5700X is the best option and it is even faster than the single VEGA card on some tasks (I don't have the VEGA duo card to test).

This is based on my own experience, Adobe Apps are not optimized to take advantage of the latest AMD GPUs and the multi-core performance of Intel chips. It's sad and depressing....

I found your post interesting as I've a 2019 Mac Pro with a W5700X working primarily in Illustrator with some photoshop work. I find it can be very glitchy working on larger files and I've been wondering about getting a single Vega card, or a W6800x but from saying it would be a waste. I was on the Adobe forums this morning enquiring about compatibility, the reply was that the W6800 was compatible but nothing yet on the Vega card

I run 2 w6800x Duo's "4 w6800x's" and adobe suite runs perfectly on my system. To be clear, I ONLY use After Effects, Premiere, and Illustrator, and occasionally media encoder and animator, and it never gives me any issues outside of Adobe's own obvious issues lol. Adobe app issues are typically just due to Adobe's laziness lol.
