Radeon Pro WX 7100 | High Sierra | Mojave (?)

Hello. Currently, I have a great deal on 2 x WX 7100 graphic cards (used, in excellent condition).

Right now, I’ve an ‘R9 NANO 4 GB’ installed on my Mac Pro from 2010.


I’ve searched the forum but, didn’t found a clear information on the latest versions of macOS support, for the WX 7100...

Does it work on High Sierra 'out of the box'? 'Metal' on Mojave supported?


*Size (1 slot) and power (1 x 6 pins) is perfect for installation on the cMP; 2 cards on macOS and Windows.

WX 7100 works fine in HS and Mojave. It's not exactly an upgrade to the card you have unless the software you use can take advantage of 2 GPUs, but Polaris cards like the WX 7100 have the best support in Mojave.

Would I get better and faster renders?


Windows 10 Crossfire:

• DCS World
• Assetto Corsa
• Elite Dangerous

Would I get at least 50% more performance on fps?

If you are using pro apps in windows then you will likely see a performance increase due to the pro driver optimizations. Games will vary depending on how it was programmed to take advantage of two cards.

You'll likely see little difference in Mac OS side considering the programs you listed. Future updates may be something to consider though as the WX7100 is the same chipset as the 480/580 (Polaris) and will be supported for a good while. Who knows on the Fiji cards.

For gaming, workstation card usually is a bad choice. The driver is not for gaming. And crossfire gaming is really 50/50, if it works, then you get almost double FPS, but almost 50% of change you will see artifacts. Even Nvidia can't make SLI work reliably. I won't be too surprised if Crossfire Pro (the crossfire that for work station card) gives you lots of trouble in gaming.

For Photoshop, 99% won't help anything. For 3D work, there is no crossfire in macOS, only the graphic card that attach to the monitor can do the 3D work. The remaining GPU can help to compute only.

In other word, if possible, a single more power GPU usually is a better choice.

I agree with everything you said except this. The new AMD drivers for windows will switch between workstation and gaming drivers for their new pro series cards. I haven't tried it but it's there so when playing games it would effectively make his situation about like having two rx480 cards. Everything else is spot on.

Interesting, didn’t know about this, thanks for correcting me.

BTW, do you know if those workstation card’s clock / voltage are locked? I never own a workstation card, just wonder if the latest AMD driver also allow users to alter the WX cards parameters.

Hello Bro hw u doing? I bought today on Radeon pro w7100, still in delivery, id like to know if u really bought the twice cards, how its going?

im with the radeon 5770 and im planning to attach the 7100 in the second bay and use both cards.
What do u think guys it will work well ?
