I have a spare Dell OEM Radeon R7 250 GPU (2 GB version) that I bought from a local shop a couple of years ago, and just realized I still have it.
I have a 5,1 Mac Pro running Monterey through OpenCore. Currently, it has the stock 5770 video card, and I attempted to put in the R7 250. The machine booted up fine, but when it got to the login window, I noticed there was no GPU acceleration. In "About This Mac" it does not detect the card, and instead says "Display 6 MB."
I also noticed it did not show the "original" gray screen before booting into OpenCore, so I think that means that the only reason this card even displays video on this Mac Pro is because it's running OpenCore, but I could be wrong.
My question is: Is there a way to make this GPU work in this cMP and also achieve full GPU acceleration? On the Definitive Mac Pro Upgrade Guide, it lists the card as being Metal-supported. It also says that it "requires a hack" to get it to work, but I already have OpenCore. It would be great to use so that I don't have to go out and get another Metal-supported video card.
Any thoughts?
