plan to swap my imac pro (vega 64) for mac pro with either Radeon Pro Vega II x 2 modules or Duo.

There are 2.5x more teraflops than vega 64 (28.3 vs 11 ). I can have a stable gaming at 1440p high settings on windows bootcamp for most games, but less than 30fps for 2160p. Is radeon pro vega II x 2 or duo supposed to well play game at 4k 60fps ?
 
It will function as a single Radeon VII with 32GB HBM unless they have support for CrossFire in Windows.
 
if it based on Radeon VII, so will be no crossfire support, but can be limited mGPU support in some DX12 games
 
TBH, my experience of gaming on these Vega cards has been mediocre at best. These cards are brilliant when it comes to computation (especially if you need fp16 compute), but they have never been great for games (that may well be a driver issue).

The general thing about workstation cards is that they are not great for gaming, at best they'll be decent when still really new and somewhat comparable to high end gaming cards. Drivers are usually not geared towards gaming.
As soon as a game really pushes the envelope you'll have to step down the detail levels with these.

1440p sounds mighty fine to me unless you're sitting right in front of some gigantic screen? I even run my 65" 4K living room telly at 1080 to keep the Ps4 pro from stressing out too much - can't really see the difference when sitting on the couch. :cool:

Those tech site can say whatever they want. But more than one gamers just did it. And crossfire actually works for Radeon VII. This is the fact.

I know AMD never say Radeon VII can crossfires, but they also never officially says it cannot. Just simply not mention anything about it. Yeah, this is strange. However, the question is, do we care about the official info more? Or the practical use more?

Practically, crossfire just work for Radeon VII

no, these apps are multi GPU DX12 (3dmark time spy, Rise of the Tomb Rider, Gears of War 4), it's not crossfire, do you want see crossfire? Try run some DX11 games with compatible profile

well those games are 10 years old...

what you expect? even Titan RTX isn't sufficient for new AAA titles (with maxed settings) above 4K resolution

so you can turn crossfire in control panel, but still crossfire doesn't work
check 58:00 Apex Legends, only one GPU is working because it's a DX11 game and Radeon VII doesn't support crossfire, other games are DX12 mGPU, so the second card is working

So, only DX12, may work in some games, but not full support.

that's right, but I don't think somebody will cry about that, because this card it's great for professional work like CAD/CAM or 3D rendering, for example you can arrange 1st GPU for heavy 3D rendering and on 2nd you can do heavy project without any issue or you can double rendering performance using both GPUs, also Radeon Pro Vega II is exclusive for Mac Pro only, they over doubled performance comparing to previous Pro Duo based on Polaris architecture

The upcoming Navi-based Radeon Pro W5700X should be significantly faster than the Vega II at gaming. Navi is much more tuned to graphics performance vs compute (where it's as good as Vega)

EDIT - it will be faster on a performance per dollar measure, not overall. See my later post.

Are you sure? because,
single Vega II - Compute Units 64 - 14.2 FP32 TFLOPs
W5700X - Compute Units 36 - 8.89 - FP32 TFLOPs
