Updated to 10.15.4... Got my eGPU enclosure to test the Radeon VII. Same issue. Fans go full speed when putting Mac Pro to sleep.

I have my doubts this issue will be solved. Anyway... Already ordered a Sapphire NITRO+ RX 5700 XT.

There are even more bugs now. From the first Beta of 10.15.4 they ported the Navi bugs over to the VII like graphics glitching in games due to faulty metal driver and App crashes that make use of Meal (for example FCPX). For Navi cards I am reporting this issue since day 1 - no reaction from Apple. I also reported the VII issues throughout the whole beta period of 10.15.4 - no reaction from Apple. Now in the release, issues still there.

Mac Pro 2019 users are affected as well if they use the Pro Vega II which is a Vega20 GPU as well. It has the same issue. This really is a bad joke. Apple doesn't care about graphics drivers quality at all.

Radeon VII is a dead product for now... AMD says its EoL... So I wonder if its even worth expecting fixes for it.

I know that RX 5700 XT also has an occasional sleep/wakeup bug. Not sure if this was fixed in 10.15.4

Nope, still occasional freezes / kernel panics after wake from sleep. Appears to be triggered randomly by processes utilizing AppleGVA.

@MikeabMac I already got it confirmed by a Mac Pro user (Pro Vega II Duo). Same issues as on my Radeon VII throughout the beta and issues still present in the release. He reported the bugs to Apple and hasn't got any response so far as well.

Yes, the issue actually was gone on final release of 10.15.3 on my machine and then appeared again with 10.15.4 Beta 1. It's a bit different tho. Previously I was able to trigger a freeze after wake by playing some GPU decoded video 100% of the time. Now it only happens randomly, like maybe 1 out of 20 tries. There hasn't been any change to that so far and it is the same in the 10.15.4 release version. Plus those graphic glitches in games and metal related crashes in FCPX still do happen. Has been an issue since day one support of Navi cards. The MacBook Pro 16 is affected by that as well.

And as mentioned in this topic already, starting with 10.15.4 Beta 1 the Radeon VII has the same glitches and stability issues in metal based games and apps. Going back to 10.15.3 everything is fine again. I recommend users of a Radeon VII and users of a Mac Pro 2019 with Pro Vega II (Duo) cards not to upgrade to 10.15.4 due to these issues. And if you do upgrade, make sure to bombard Crapple with bug reports. This mess is totally not acceptable.

Have 2 VII:s here for Davinci Resolve.
Wonder if its affecting all Metal based apps...
Think I’ll hold on to 10.15.3 for a while.
Works fine now.

I can only tell you about FCPX. I don't use Resolve. FCPX with the Radeon VII crashes on me like once an hour with more complex projects in 10.15.4. 10.15.3 is fine and perfectly stable.

Thank you all for the heads up. I'll stay on 10.15.3 until these issues are addressed.

I hope I don't regret buying the RX 5700 XT :(

I'm regretting it. I just picked up a Sapphire 5700XT. Install was pretty straight forward. The first issue I had was the minute I tried to log in I lost HDMI output. I had to switch the port to DP. That issue was then resolved...I guess you can say?

The second issue I am having is while playing a game the entire machine locks up where I have to either do a hard reboot or wait for it to reboot on its own. This was on 10.15.3

I then checked for an update and saw that 10.15.4 was out and figured maybe they have better support for drivers. I haven't had enough time to test it yet but so far I'm not impressed.

I'm not really sure what to do at this point.

Installed 10.15.4 after consulting some colleagues.
Resolve runs fine, no problems.
My top, right TB3 connection stopped working though.
Fixed by 15 sek power boot.

Those of you having occational problems with wake from sleep with RX 5700 XT (I have it too on a MacPro5,1) – I don't think it's related to that GPU per se as people with other GPU's (even Intel) are also having a similar Kernel Panic as at least I get:

I guess we have to hold our hope up for Catalina 10.15.5

On another topic of the RX 5700 XT: One thing I've noticed is that the card's fans has a tendency to spin up a bit for about 30 seconds about every 15 minutes, even if the computer is not being loaded – it's rather noticeable in a quiet environment. Is this something you have too on your MacPro5,1 with a RX 5700 XT? I have the Gigabyte RX 5700 XT Gaming OC card.

That Radeon VII fan issue in sleep is a EFI firmware bug of Macs tho. On a hackintosh the fans turn off in sleep. It's hilarious Apple doesn't manage to fix that. Just as hilarious as the other firmware bug causing black screens on boot using eGPUs on a 2018 Mac Mini.
