For those who haven't heard: https://www.macrumors.com/2010/03/2...ake-iphone-splash-with-prices-starting-at-95/

Anyways, I was in radio shack and they asked me what kind of phone I had and I told them a iPhone 3G. They proceeded to tell me that I could get a new 3GS by simply trading in my phone depending on the condition..

Turns out they will give me $130 for my 3G (it's pretty damn beaten up with a scratch on the screen).. and they will sell me the 3GS for $200 + activation fee.. so technically I will end up paying around $90 for a new 3GS.

What are you thoughts on this? Good idea?

Oh yeah! The 3GS-80 with 32K of memory and dual, yes dual, 5.25" floppy drives.

(Yes, I convinced my parents to buy one of those TRS-80's in 1980 for $2500)

TRs-80 haha, i remember playing missle command and black jack. Thats about as hot as it got in those days, until we got an atari 2600.

for a future upgrade we got a Tandy 1000.

by the way this was my first computer :D

Is that price with signing another 2yr contract? If so, I say just hold off until this summer if you can.

Yeah, I believe so. How much was the 3GS with 2 yr contract when it came out? $299? So the 4G would probably be around that too, right?

I think I'm going to do this little trade... seems reasonable to me but then again I know nothing

Then again I could just resell it on craigslist when the new iPhone comes out.. although I'm not sure how much I will be able to sell it for in the condition it's in.

dilemmas dilemmas :(

Keep in mind that once the new phone comes out, the market value of the current version will decrease. To what degree is anyone's guess but supply will be up (people unloading their 3Gs') and demand will be down (why buy a 3Gs when they can get a 4g)

what are the steps to selling an iPhone on craigslist?

Just simply post an ad, reset settings, and take out the sim card?

Does apple/carrier ask you where your old iPhone is when you come in to buy a new one?

you can definitely get more that $130 for it on ebay or craigslist.

that money could go towards the new 3gs. If i were you though i would hold out until the new one comes out.

don't know about holding off until June if the deal is now.. RadioShack is a bunch of bastards. They will probably stop the deal as soon as the new iPhone comes out.

I'm actually thinking about this too.

wait, so they do in-store trade-ins too? On the site, it says you mail it in and they give you a gift card.

and also, I read that article on appleinsider with details and it says you can only get the trade-in and upgrade price if your phone is on an expired or expiring contract. My contract isn't over til March 2011...
