Hi! I'm new here, and was hoping someone can guide me in the right direction. I absolutely love my Macbook (not pro, just the regular one) and my friend installed Ragnarok with Wine on my Mac so I can play. The problem that I am encountering is that the game runs with a bad lag. He said he ran it on his Macbook Pro and it works fine. I don't want to buy a PC just to play the game. I do everything else on my Mac. Can someone help?

Well, here's the thing: Wine wrappers usually kill performance. Badly. Sometimes they make the game three to five times more demanding than it should be on the computer's hardware, and therefore, if you are using even a decently constructed wrapper, you will probably experience a little performance drop.

Now comes the main isssue: depending on how old your Macbook is, I you'll probably be having issues with hardware POWER. Gaming PC's melt and are clunky, I agree. However, up until the 320m, and I suppose the 9400m, the Macbook really can't handle modern or even 2005-6+ games very well. I expect that you should get better performance either in native windows running the game, or with more powerful hardware, i.e your next mac upgrade?

Good luck, don't drink wine on a computer,

E.

If you want help running Wine games on your Mac, you could always go and have a look at Paul The Tall's website HERE - he does Wine wrappers for many games and there are folks on the forums there who will offer advice on your laptop's ability to handle Wine wrapped games. The forum is not very busy but there are some knowledgeable folks there.
