RAID question: Adding Bigger Hard Drives to a RAID1 Setup

I’ve been using a RAID 1 setup with 2x 4TB drives. I’m about to run out of room and purchased 2 8TB drives to upgrade the available space. What’s the best way to do this while maintaining the same data on the drives?

Can I pull one 4TB drive and replace it with an 8TB, then let it rebuild and pull out the second 4TB and replace that one with the second 8TB drive? Will I end up with an 8TB volume or is there an additional step?

I’m using a LaCie 2Big enclosure and macOS Mojave.
