I have a 640 gig raid 1, produced with disk utility, attached to Leopard server.
I'd like to increase the size of the raid. Would the following process work? (Assume I'm shutting down properly and rebooting at the appropriate times in between steps and all that.)
1) Replace one of the 640 drives with a blank, larger (say 2TB) drive. The status will show degraded.
2) Let the raid rebuild itself. When the rebuild is finished, I'll have one 640 gig drive and one 2tb drive and the size of the raid will probably still show as 640 gig.
3) Repeat the process, replacing the other 640 with a 2TB and letting it rebuild again, resulting in a 2TB raid 1 with the same ~600gigs of content.
This seems like a relatively painless way to upgrade the size of the raid, providing I have the time to do wait for the rebuilds, which I do.
Will this work?
