rain on my iphone

ok so i was walking to class today and it started pouring down rain. by the time i got to class my iphone was reseting and acting weird. it would lag like crazy and would keep prompting me to turn off the phone. I would turn it off and it would come right back on and do the same thing. After about an hour, it started to stay on and slowly get faster. now it seems fine and doesnt slow down but the internet will not work for some reason. the volume button also glitches sometimes like i am holding it down. I can still make calls and text fine but i would like the full functionallity of the phone. Whenever i turn the phone off it turns right back on again. The indicator in the earphone jack is red, and it is a 2g phone. Will things even out and be fine in a day or two? Is it worth bringing to the genious bar? It just got a little wet so i was thinking about telling them that i was talking on it while i was sweating really bad. Would they give me a new phone or just tell me that its not their fault. I really thaught the iphone could take a little rain and it kind of pisses me off that you cant get a drop of liquid on it or it will completely **** up. Please give me your opinions.

Oh and it seems that my battery is draining quickly too.
 
If the inside of the headphone jack is red, then you got more than just a few drops of water on it.

You can try asking Apple to fix it, but, it's unlikely they will do it for free.
 
Ok so my iphone now seems fine and is working the way it should. But i would still like to return it and attempt to get a new one to avoid any problems with it in the future.
 
Well I guess it just had to dry out if it is acting normal now. Why the heck should apple replace it? YOU got it wet, it's not their fault at all.

"I drove my car into a lake, it's Toyota's fault!!! I want a replacement!"

Because i did not "submerge" my iphone in water and i think its pretty ridiculous that apple expects you not to get any sort of liquid on the phone. the amount of liquid on my phone was about as much as would be on it if i had been sweating and talking on it for a few minutes.

Now the only thing acting up is it will display a message randomly saying "this accessory does not work with the iphone" when nothing is plugged in. I also can not turn it off with out it turning right back on again.
 
I don't think it's ridiculous to expect not to get any moisture on my iPhone and I take all necessary precautions to prevent it from happening. I am sorry to hear that you had this problem but I agree with the previous posts stating that it is your problem and not Apples and you shouldn't expect them to fix or replace it at no charge to you.

Oh come on!!! Its a piece of electronic equipment. Would you dangle your laptop outside in teh rain and expect it to survive??? Get a grip!

Power it off, let it dry out for a day or so and you'll probably be fine.

I could see doing that with a piece of electronic equipment that meets MIL-STD-810E for rain but other than that, no. And the last time I checked the iPhone doesn't meet this standard. :p

Well clearly it doesnt so what's your point? - you got it wet, it's broke! Is that Apple's fault??

It's called sarcasm (thus the :p at the end of my post). I am not the OP, I likewise agree it isn't Apple's fault as you can tell from my prior posts.

It probably got a few drops into the headphone port. I always wondered about that little hole and how it points towards the sky. I have the Incase Slider 3g to cover mine up and I put a finger over the hole if I'm talking in the rain briefly while walking to class. If I'm on it for awhile in the rain I just put my headphones on and use it like that. I have always wanted a case that had a headphone stopper built in, that you could uncork, that would also stay attached. My old Moto Rokr phone had that to keep out dust and crap. Kinda weird how Apple left a gaping hole into the top of their device.

I also wish my Slider case had a dock cover since you pull off the bottom piece to dock it anyway. If the dock connector port and headphone port were covered, then I could drop my iPhone into a puddle and it would probably be fine as long as I quickly grabbed it. Those two areas, I think, would let in the most water the quickest.

Also, good luck getting it exchanged at a genius bar if it isn't having any problems. Put a small amount of paint over the pink spot and tell them it's giving you the Apple Logo Screen of Death and the constant app crashing and iPod media disappearing problem and if the person is nice enough they will make up some other problem since you can't show them the problem. Just don't be rude about it. But I didn't tell you that trick and it probably only has a 30% chance of working. ;) :D

Hear, hear! People that try and screw a manufacturer or retailer for something that is their own fault are at least partly to blame if retailers and manufacturers are slow or hesitant to help out in questionable situations. That doesn't even go into the topic of basic honesty vs the constant compulsion to get something for nothing, refusal to take responsibility for one's actions and lack of common sense, etc. The world would be a much better place if we would just try and do what's right. Go ahead and flame me, if you will. You know I'm right. (not you, StoneColdSober, of course, I'm agreeing with you)

Me too. The headphone jack is in an inconvenient location as far as moisture is concerned. Apple should have included one of those little rubber plugs that can cover it when not in use. Sometimes it can just start raining while using your phone. If one tiny little drop gets into that headphone jack, it could mess up the whole damn phone and make it appear you dropped the phone in a bucket of water.
 
I don't quite understand the complaints about the location of the headphone jack. IIRC it is in the same place it has been every standard iPod (i.e. not nano or shuffle) since the first iPod came out. I understand that this is a phone and therefore it is going to be held to your head but Apple is maintaining a consistent design theme and they do provide headphones so it isn't like you have to hold the phone to your ear to use it.

As for Apple including some sort of port cover, those things are horrible. Every phone I have ever had that had some sort of port cover, the thing either got lost or broke off. They were worthless.

But if this really is an issue for you, you can always buy one of these cases.
