For my MBP with 512, should I just get 1GB and settle for 1.5GB or give the 512 to a friend and spring the extra $140 for 2.0GB?

Purposes:
Primarily for Final Cut & DVD Studio on the run. I don't play any games.

How important is the last 512 after 1.5GB?

having matched pairs does give a performance increase.

Also, if you're doing those large apps, you're going to need the extra 512mb.

I say toss in a gig chip and see how 1.5 runs. If your still chugging, definetly go for the other gig stick.

More RAM always helps, espeacially if you use Motion.

Lots of truth in this. You can *never* have enough RAM, especially running pro-apps such as those you mentioned.

Grab RAM from newegg, crucial makes good mac compat. RAM. Check on Crucial's site for the model to purchase, then buy from newegg. You'll save big $$$.

I used to say 512MB minimum, then OSX came out.

I used to say 1GB miniumum, then Final Cut Studio (well it wasnt studio yet) came out.

I now say 2GB miniumum, because in time it may not be enough!
